Alex Disasi, France defender, has been signed by Chelsea from Monaco for 45 million euros (£38.57 million).
Following the signings of Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Angelo Gabriel, and Diego Moreira, the 25-year-old French international has reached an agreement on a six-year contract and is on track to become Chelsea’s sixth summer signing. New manager Mauricio Pochettino has continued to bolster his squad with more high-caliber players.
Forwards Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku joined from Villarreal and RB Leipzig respectively.
Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, and Levi Colwill, who signed a new contract on August 2, as well as Benoit Badiashile, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury suffered last season and will miss the start of the Premier League season with a hamstring injury, will compete with Disasi for the center-back position at Chelsea.
Wesley Fofana sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament and is expected to be out for several months. Disasi will step in as a replacement at the right-sided center-back position.
Last season, he participated in all 38 of Monaco’s Ligue 1 contests.
Disasi said on Chelsea’s website, “I am incredibly happy to be able to be a member of this fantastic family.
“I intend to make significant progress here. to be crowned. I’ll exert every effort to accomplish those goals. I have a lot of ambition.
“I can’t wait to feel the energy of the fans,” Disasi continued.
“I am excited by the zeal of the Premier League fans, the atmosphere, and the intensity of the games.”
Chelsea’s unbeaten preseason tour of the United States came to a close on Sunday with a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund in Chicago. Attention now shifts to their debut Premier League match of 2023–24 at home against Liverpool on August 13.
Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0 to claim victory in the first Premier League Summer Series.
So far this summer, the team has lost Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ethan Ampadu, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, and ex-captain Cesar Azpiliceuta.
The Blues, on the other hand, have reached a £25 million agreement with Brighton for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, and the team is hoping to sign midfielder Moises Caicedo, who is also from Brighton, but they have not yet agreed to pay the asking price, which is more than £100 million after having had two bids rejected to date, the most recent of which totals £80 million.
In a statement to the club’s website, co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: “Axel has rightly gained respect on the international scene after showcasing his quality over several seasons in France.
He is prepared to advance in his career, and we are thrilled that Chelsea will be that next stop. We warmly extend our welcome to him and anticipate seeing him soon link up with Mauricio Pochettino and his new teammates.
Chelsea will have another choice in Disasi as a right-sided center-back.
Since moving to Monaco from Stade de Reims in August 2020, he has made 118 appearances for the Ligue 1 team.
The 25-year-old participated in all 38 of Monaco’s Ligue 1 contests last year. He has four caps for France, including three World Cup appearances.
